Pregnancy is one of the most beautiful and transformative seasons in a woman’s life. Whether it’s your first baby or your fifth, how you choose to capture this moment matters. Over the years, I’ve had the honor of photographing expectant mothers in two very distinct ways: Traditional maternity sessions and maternity boudoir. Both experiences are meaningful, but they offer completely different styles, energy, and emotional focus.

So, what’s the difference?

Traditional Maternity Photography: The Legacy of Motherhood

This is the experience offered through my Amy Captures Love brand. It’s rooted in storytelling and connection. These sessions focus on the anticipation of your baby’s arrival, your love for your growing family, and the emotion that surrounds this chapter.

Traditional single maternity sessions includes a location in South Orange County of your choice. If you book both a maternity and newborn session, you’re eligible for The Collective Experience, which includes an upgraded indoor studio option and elevated styling. Many clients also enroll in The Legacy Journey, which documents your motherhood story over the course of your baby’s first year. With the both upgrades, clients gain access to my curated dress rentals so you feel beautiful and confident without needing to shop for a gown.

Most traditional sessions are done outdoors or in your home. You’re welcome to include your partner or children, and the overall tone is natural, heartfelt, and timeless. It’s the kind of imagery you’ll pass down for generations.

Maternity Boudoir: A Celebration of You

If you’re craving something more intimate, artistic, and empowering, maternity boudoir through OC Boudoir is designed just for that. This is where sensuality meets motherhood in a luxurious and elevated way.

Every maternity boudoir session includes professional hair and makeup to make you feel pampered and radiant from the moment you walk in. You’ll have access to a curated client closet featuring sheer gowns, silks, lace details, and elegant draping pieces that flatter your changing body. Many clients choose to incorporate nude or implied nude silhouettes using pasties and nude thongs for a soft, tasteful, and fine-art effect.

These sessions take place in a studio setting, where lighting is dramatic, posing is intentional, and every detail is crafted around your comfort level and artistic vision. It’s not about documenting your family. It’s about reconnecting with yourself and honoring the power of your body. You leave with imagery that makes you feel bold, beautiful, and completely seen.

How to Know Which One Is Right for You

Ask yourself:

  • Do I want to include my partner or other kids? → Traditional

  • Do I want something just for me (and maybe my partner later)? → Boudoir

  • Am I drawn to emotional, natural storytelling? → Traditional

  • Am I craving a glamorous, empowering moment that makes me feel seen and sexy? → Boudoir

  • Or… do I want both?

Can You Do Both?

Yes. Many of my clients choose to book both sessions to fully honor all sides of this journey. One celebrates the expansion of your family, the other celebrates you. And both are worth remembering. Here are some links to learn more about each. You can always reach out to me here to contact me directly too.
